We’ve been together (as an online community, that is) for 18 months now. Over these months you have taught me a lot about what you want and need with respect to living your life in an inspired way.
I want to share some of that back with you here and in the next couple of pieces. I’ve been listening very carefully, and – well more on that part soon!
As I share with you some of what I’ve learned about who we are, please take a moment to think about the challenges you currently face and where you would put yourself in the list below.
For today, we’re going to address the four basic challenges that most of our readers have (or have had) in their lives. (Here, we refer only to challenges that affect our ability to shape our lives as we wish – so, we’re not talking about your leaky roof or anything like that.)
So, by the time you find us, you have experienced and been kinda sorta shut down by one of more of these four challenges:
Depletion — You’re worn out. You feel stuck. You can’t seem to get any forward momentum going in your life. You want things to be different, but as we used to say, “You’re get up and go, got up and went.” You’ve been doing way too much for way too many for way too long. If you let yourself, you’d feel really really sad about this. You’re probably not eating well, or exercising, or resting in ways that could help you. You just can’t. It’s too much work. When you’re this worn out, it’s just easier to keep things the way they are. You try not to think about it too much.
Confusion – IRONY ALERT. You’re finally at a place in life where you have some money, time, and energy to invest in what YOU want, but you don’t have the first clue what that is. You’ve dabbled in this or that, taking a scattershot approach to “finding yourself,” but nothing feels you with the zeal you hope to find. You feel guilty about even having this “problem” because, after all, you have so much more than most of the people on the planet. You probably keep this whole thing a secret – the part about wanting something “more” when you already have so much. Maybe, it’s not even “more” you want, but “other.” Hmmmm.
Poor Tactics – Or, what I call, “dumb-ass magical thinking with respect to what you can accomplish with the resources at hand.” The traditional “productivity tools” like time management just don’t work for women at our stage in life. But we keep trying them! Here’s why you keep hitting that wall, by the way. Most of what is traditionally taught about getting our dreams out into the world doesn’t take into account the unique challenges we face.
Fear – Compounding the confusion we discussed earlier is the fear. We have new fears at this stage of the game. Life has probably given you a big wake-up call. It doesn’t matter what got your attention – whether it was the death of a loved one, illness, divorce, loss of job or income, the kids leaving the house – the point is that you are now really really clear that time, while not quite yet running out, is more precious than ever. While fear of failure is still pretty high on our go-to list of concerns, a new fear has appeared on the horizon. When we think about what we want to make with the rest of our lives, we get completely shut down by this one. We want to try something new, but we fear we’re gonna “pick wrong.” And that would be really really terrible, right? After all, we don’t have that many do-overs left, do we?
So, these are our four dilemmas, and I’ll be back soon to share with you the next part of our story – the four stages of transformation.
For now, though, please let me know how much of this I got right? Which of these challenges are active in your life today? As always, I’m waiting for you, in the comments below.
P.S. If you’re not a “bona fide” member of our community, we’d love to have you. Let us know where to stay in touch with you. Oh, and I’ll send you your Comeback QuickStart so you can begin to get a picture of what you want most.
